Juvederm

JuvedermOver time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form. Recently approved by the FDA, Allergan, Inc., the makers of Botox Cosmetic has introduced the Juvéderm injectable gel as the “next-generation” dermal filler. The smooth consistency of Juvederm gel helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds or marionette lines, which are the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvéderm is also used for volumizing lips.

Juvéderm is a smooth consistency gel made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Dr. Scheiner at the Aesthetic Center at Tampa Eye Clinic will ease Juvéderm Ultra or Juvéderm Ultra Plus injectable gel under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice you look better but no one will know why! Juvéderm injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.

How is Botox Cosmetic different than Juvéderm™?

BOTOX Cosmetic is not a filler. BOTOX Cosmetic relaxes muscle activity and is used to treat moderate to severe lines caused by the dominant frown muscles between the eyebrows (the glabellar area).

How is the procedure done?

There is no need for any pre-testing because Juvéderm is of non-animal origin. The areas for injection are anesthetized with local anesthesia for increased comfort, followed by injections of Juvederm using a delicate needle. The treatment takes about 15-30 minutes depending on the number of areas to be treated.

How long will Juvéderm™ last?

Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. The results last about 6 months or longer due to the cross-linking process through which hyaluronic acid is made into the gel product.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are usually mild to moderate lasting 7 days or less and include temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain, firmness, swelling and bumps.
